Eliza the Jill? What's that all about? Actually, Eliza the Jill tells a lot about me. Firstly, Eliza is a shortened form of my name, Elizabeth. This reveals that I'm lazy enough, or at least impatient enough, to skip four letter just to save a couple tenths of a second of typing. And then there's the Jill. "Jill" is an old-fashioned term for a girl. "Every Jack had his Jill" and all that. So not only does that tell you that I'm a girl (hopefully you already knew that) but also that I enjoy bringing back old-fashioned things - names, terms, values, concepts. The fact that I know what a Jill is tells you that I am interested in language. But there's another reason behind Eliza the Jill.
As of this writing, I play four musical instruments: piano, guitar, drums, and playground chimes. :) There is a saying, "Jack of all trades; Master of none." I tinkered with it to say, "Jill of many instruments; Master of none." Making music, I've discovered, is a passion of mine. When I'm pouring out creations on the piano, releasing melodies out of nowhere on the guitar, jamming along on the drums, or being absorbed into childish, out-of-tune playground chimes, I am utterly enjoying what I'm doing.
But making music is not my only passion. Jill of many instruments may be part of who I am but it's not all of me. There is another one of my passions that I believe is even more important. And, like music, it is a gift.
I have experienced the love of God. Not just known that God loves me, I've known that since I was very little. But I've experienced it, realized it, felt it so unmistakably that I can't forget it, much less doubt it. and what else could I do but fall in love with Him? So I did, and my life hasn't been the same since. I have joy, hope, comfort, peace, and fullness of life that I didn't have before, and would never trade now. But now that I have it, I know what others are missing, and my heart breaks for those who don't have any idea what they could have. Those who are choking in life's problems. Those who are being lied to. Those who are Christians but aren't doing anything about it. God is ready and waiting for them to come to Him, to know Him and follow Him, and has so much to give them. I want so much to let people know that. But, unlike making music, I haven't had much practice. So what? Now is the time.
You, whoever is reading this, you are loved by God. It doesn't matter who you, what's happened to you, or what you've done. God made you and loves you. Being loved is not small thing, and the everlasting, sacrificing, perfect love that God has for us is more than we can know. Even though we were, because of our sin, separated from Him and sentenced to eternal death, He loved us enough to rescue us. He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place. If you believe that and trust in Jesus's sacrifice alone to save you, you can be sure of having life forever in heaven with God. You can look forward to no more tears, sickness, pain, or death. And right now you can have peace, hope, life.... what I have. Ask Jesus to forgive your sins, He will. If you've done that, awesome! Let Him be part of your life! Hear from Him, He's given us a huge treasure, the Bible. http://biblegateway.com Talk to Him, He knows your every thought, your every word. Ask Him things, and listen for His answer. I know He's been faithful to bring answers to my mind, and to give me what I need.
Please don't ignore this. It's your choice, and your consequences. But whether you accept Him or not, God does love you unconditionally. And that is why I can love you, even if I don't know you. That's why it's so important that you know what I've just told you. |
